Why a World Party?
Just a shared dash for survival.
In the distant
future, a human being or animal will walk to the edge of an ocean.
The political decisions that are made in the next
thirty years, by ordinary people, will decide if that ocean is dead or alive.
As acid rain, air pollution, and global warming all cross national borders; so do ideas,
discoveries and friendships. No nation operates in a vacuum anymore. We view the world as a neighborhood, and we view other nations as families on the block. We feel that the neighborhood is in a shared peril. So of course, we nurture a bond with our neighbors. Common Sense of America and The American Activism Council invites all people of conscience in all nations to be part of
this unprecedented movement.
The data is there for all to see. The atmosphere we breathe
and share with ten million other species--is changing.
Failure to get ahead of this curve will be rewarded with catastrophe upon catastrophe. Minimal climate changes can and are causing sweeping
extinctions; we are already witnessing the beginning of this process.
We have a moral obligation to future generations and so have little choice but to
unite. Let us hope it's not too late.
As we know, there are periodic conferences on environmental issues.
Scholars from across the globe attend these conferences. They discuss ecological
issues, and try to plan for legislative measures. Common Sense of America salutes
their splendid efforts by gathering their legislative agenda into The
Millennium Mandate. Yet, without a substantial change in global governments
the substance of their work will continue to fall to waste. The fact--finally openly
visible--is that the lawmakers in all nations have no intention of taking
these discussions and turning them into the sweeping reforms necessary for
long-range environmental survival.
The reason of course, environmental legislation would restrict the profit-flow of special-interests
across the globe.
The facts are indeed
in! We have a hundred years of research on a thousand different subjects
warning us of the dangers that await our new era. Children who are yet unborn have no voice to
speak out from the future; asking us to stop
our undisciplined ways and leave a healthy planet for them. We believe that the age of poverty must end before
an era of successful environmental preservation can begin. Yet, we already face pressing nature--Mother Earth--to the breaking point.
The World Activism
Council.
An
experiment in global survival.
The data is there. Isn't it time we start acknowledging it?
We're saving the whales and losing
the oceans; saving the primates while losing the rainforests. We're fighting the animal in front
and forgetting about the monster creeping up from behind.
We believe that every
activist group, political party, and observant human being holds a piece of
the answer. We also realize--based upon visible evidence--that if
detached, these pieces-of-the-answer will never find their
place in the larger political picture; and it is the larger political picture that will
assure the continued existence of a healthy biosphere.
Attacking
individual issues one at a time is often exciting to
watch, and all too often, entirely futile. No longer do divided voices get the
attention of our leadership, much less international lawmakers. At this moment, we have a divided
activist community pursuing disconnected issues.
If we are to start building
durable new laws to save the
oceans, rainforests, and protect the world's poorest citizens, then we must
become a united activist
community. The global activist community must become as united as the
corporate special-interests themselves. This is the mission of The World
Activism Council.
The Cyber-Revolution is Growing.
A social and political revolution is taking form: Not of upheaval, but of modernization. This is the struggle for a better
global future, and ultimately, to cause a comprehensive set of new measures to be adopted by the international community in the time frame necessary to stave off certain ecological ruin. We've seen how grand movements' self-destruct and we're not going to let that happen. The
Cyber-revolution will take place electronically; yet, at times it will be more difficult than a physical battle because in this campaign the fight will take place in the heart and mind. It will be a battle between apathy and determination.
Do you have the activist spirit? It's not enough to have virtue on your side. Our political leadership looks at the activist movement and sees no movement at all. For there to be a movement you have to be united. Yet, the most divided community in
world is the global activist community. It's time to change all that. We have discovered a way. Beginning one day, one
Internet connection, and one voice at a time. Today, that voice is yours.
