Revolutionary Political Change
Begins in a Revolution of Thought. Save
time~ Take this address with you.
mp3; 2.2 megs; 5 min pod-cast.
People all across the globe
share a tradition that coming soon will be a world-changing
time. I have known this from my earliest memory. The day
before September 11, I had a vision of a white jet airliner crashing
into a smooth glass skyscraper. Long before that, even as I
was learning to read, I knew that the world was poised
on a knife-edge.
Revolutionaries, explorers, churchmen,
political activists, farmers, and teachers; all have passed something
uncommon
down to me. I am driven by an innate dedication to a sacred mission. I seem
to possess a natural drive to do what is necessary to advance the common good.
To answer questions that have plagued mankind for thousands of
years.
As we have
participated in the paradigm of
modern human behavior, we have had the wind at our
backs. Within our short lifetimes, we shall see those winds change
and all the abuse and pollution that we have sown will come
flying back in the faces of our descendents. Now we're
facing not only a doubling of the Earth's population in 50
years, but also, the atmosphere itself is changing in step.
We're saving the whales and
losing the oceans. We've been saving the owls and yet, losing the forests. We're
filling up our jails and still living in fear of crime.
Illuminating the abuse of our government and losing our
united American voice. We're
improving community air quality and at the same moment global
warming moves from theory to chilling fact.
So here is the
essential question. Do you care enough
to face the sobering realities of the modern age? Is there a purpose
in your life that runs deeper than professional ambition? Do you care enough
to look beyond the myths that Hollywood, the commercial media, and political
speechwriters create for the masses?
It seems that we must begin by
stating what Common Sense is not. Common Sense is not a mob of
angry demonstrators shouting at a deaf government. Common Sense is not a
philosophical' preference',
nor are we purely an environmental organization. Common Sense is not
another well-meaning spectacle for passers-by to ogle at. Common Sense is not
communist, socialist or separatist, nor is Common Sense a religious movement.
Common
Sense is not anarchist, racist or violent for those things do not assist the
process of effective reform.
Common Sense is the personal awakening that follows
knowledge. Common Sense is here to receive those who
have arrived at the
realization that we must get ahead of the destruction curve so there is never the 'big disaster'. Common
Sense is the realization that the current paradigm of human behavior is shifting from
progress-enabler to planet-destroyer. Common Sense is a change in the
way we, as Americans, perceive ourselves and our place in the larger global
community as well as our obligation to posterity.
The nineteenth century gave us the
quest to end slavery. The twentieth century gave us a mission to bring
democracy to the voiceless people of the world. The twenty-first century brings
us to a place where we have never stood before. We must decide the fate of those born in the twenty-second
century ~ and beyond. Common Sense is a process of personal
discovery that leads any rational American to the desire to help preserve the
natural world as well as preparing a way for the well-being of future generations.
Common Sense is the place we find
our thoughts when the mass of new scientific data is synthesized before us and we
are faced with a realistic view of the future. Common Sense is
refining our perspective to match our newfound intellect.
Common Sense is the realization that if we want our leaders
to place conservation and child care ahead of corporate greed,
then we must
demand facts and figures. As we learn how to tune out the lies and deceptions,
peel back the layers of special-interest influence and once again, trust our eyes and
ears and our own sense of right and wrong, we find ourselves
in a state of Common Sense.
The people of
our time face
problems that no humans have ever faced before. We have
entered an age where long-range environmental survival depends on
critical reforms that must take place in our generation.
Shall it be sweeping reform or environmental ruin?--We
get to decide. Centuries of piecemeal legislation must be passed, yet in a
single generation. In spite of that, at the very same moment, we have critical domestic issues; such
as economic hardship and healthcare costs, that affect our daily
lives. In both regards, legislative solutions move
farther away as the American
voice of reform grows steadily weaker. So what to do?
Now, returning to our chat about how much you really care.
If we truly care for our
natural world, then that same care must be reflected in the details of
new
environmental law. If we genuinely care about the societal and
economic conditions that oppress the poor, then our economic
reforms must be bold and brave. If we seek legitimate reform, then
we must look
past
the pretense of reform fashioned by the two major parties. The more informed we become,
the more we realize that durable
new laws must be passed no matter what corporate or special-interest
they may hinder. This is Common Sense.
We are modern human beings,
hungry for information, watching helplessly as
so many things are going wrong all at once. Add to that, we have a
Government unable--or unwilling--to deliver anything other than
pacifying speeches, catch-phrases, marketing slogans or surreptitious backdoor dealing.
There remains no doubt whatsoever that the most powerful and influential
nation on Earth has a government that is not only powerless to
initiate the reforms necessary to stave off environmental
downfall, but also, is dominated by interests who will resist any quest for reform tooth and nail.
This leads us
to the most important question of our age. How do you put
the power back into the hands of the non-politically connected
people? How do the meek inherit the earth before the not-so-meek
ruin it? It begins with Common Sense.
Once again, it
is humanity's time to create a new future. We
have little choice but to set aside our differences and unite to bring
about an extraordinary change in political circumstance. The time has arrived for
humanity to develop a form of democratic politics that preys
upon greed, and to set conditions within the economic paradigm
so we may finally escape from the
disgracefully obvious opposite.
A false sense of security has been the precursor to nearly every major disaster in history.
Common Sense is about avoiding the harsh lessons of what lies in wait for those who escape into apathy
during a chorus of urgent warnings. We must break the habit of waiting to the last possible moment before taking action.
If we do not unite to get ahead of the destruction-curve now, the next event that will bring humanity
together will be waves of extinctions
tearing through the biosphere that we all share, or a
planet-killing impact from space.
The Activist Movement is
thrilling to watch, but it's also failing. Through it all, the activist
community has simply taught big business and campaign strategists how to
manipulate more expertly. We fight the animal in front of us and forget
about the monster creeping up from behind.
The biosphere, deforestation, and the burning of fossil fuels; simple words and yet, a global death sentence.
Common
Sense seeks to inspire Americans to harness their
creativity, wisdom, and compassion to embrace a political path
that is consistent with
their deepest values and with what Earth can sustain. The human species is the most
numerous mammal on Earth. We must become the one that works to live within Earth’s ecological
systems.
We now
unveil the strategy to remove from government
those who have abused it for the sake of greed; and open the door to
economic, humanitarian, and environmental reform. Americans may
now liberate their government from a hundred years of special-interest rule, in time
to save the future from thousands of years of environmental ruin. We are setting a radical agenda in which the disenfranchised may play an
important role, leaders will learn humility, and the struggling majority will enjoy the rewards of
our national
wealth.
The Common Sense of America Movement is designed on a fifty year arc. At the end of
that fifty years, the wealth will be redistributed in this nation and poverty will be eradicated. By the close of the fifty year
path, college education will be free to the level of PHD producing millions of astonishing careers.
We will extend a culture of arts and sciences into the poorest
of American homes. The needs of a new generation, both psyche and
physiological, will be met. Young people will unite from pole to pole in the cause of caring for one
another and the natural world.
Attentive eyes will scan the cosmos to extend mankind's purpose
far into the celestial realm. Let our children be the heroes
who prevent a snap extinction from space.
The time has
arrived for us to shift the paradigm of human behavior. Let us
become a species that is at
once highly technological, as well as the plain-spoken caretakers of the
living web. Let us learn again to build a society with an eye
to the approaching centuries. If we are to thrive far into the
future, we must create more than a new wave of scientists; but
foster vibrant children who will hold a leaf up in the sunlight, and in happiness
cherish the
universe within.
Instead of owning the land, we must rediscover the traditional
human wisdom of being owned by it. When people, land, and community are as one,
all three members prosper; when they relate not as members but as competing interests, all three are exploited.
To triumph over hardship then challenge global injustice, this
must
be us.
I was born a
revolutionary. For me, it is easy, but how do I make such a
thing of over 300 million Americans? I am committed
to the idea that my life has to mean something. To foster
this feeling among all people is the very key to planetary
survival. And so here we are, and I welcome you to Common
Sense of America.
I was born with a
vision. To carry this burden is part of what I am. I embrace the American
principles, and find that I am a teacher at all times. The entire current of my existence is to influence
people to influence their governments, and thus influence
future events. As unbelievable as it may seem to you now,
I know what needs to be done. Now let's see if we can do it.
Common Sense is
here.
Together, we will celebrate mankind's creativity and the joy and wonder of living on
this planet. There are those who will always be telling us that
it can't be done, yet mankind must go ahead and do it anyway. In the modern age,
we must be motivated by the magnitude of the necessity itself.
It may be years before anyone understands us; but
there will come a time when others will start to catch up. An idea as radical
and as fundamentally simple as Common Sense is going to be hard to bring to the very nation that needs it,
and there will continue be skeptics. Yet, skepticism begins to fade as people begin to listen.
To make
healthcare free, double our social security, liberate our airwaves,
end urban sprawl, preserve our wild spaces, and remove the
corrupting influences from government will be difficult; yet,
when you think it through, your common sense kicks in. To cause
a majority of ordinary Americans to adjust their political
mindset and vote a new 3rd Party into high office will be hard,
yet nowhere near as hard as bequeathing to your descendents
an America in a stalemate of ecological and sociological
decay.
Yes, it will be difficult, and all people everywhere will be
rewarded.

Brief Genealogy of An American Son. |
Darrel
R. Hudson
A single-minded idealist immune to fads and
the impulses of mobs. Son of a notable atomic (Manhattan Project)
physicist, and
grandson of the recipient of The Robling Medal, the world's highest honor in the field of
geology. Darrel Hudson has worked as art consultant, production hand, and laborer.
Formally trained in television, film, and art. The majority of his 45 years
spent in Pasadena and Beverly Hills. Currently, C.E.O. of Axial
Media.
An American legacy in brief: A member of a
lineage extending back to 1505, including such notables as The Earl of Essex
and Sir Robert Dudley (Shakespeare in Love). His American roots run forward from Isaac Allerton of
the Mayflower expedition, an attendee at the first Thanksgiving, and Thomas
Cushman, who was the co-organizer of the Mayflower voyage and who also delivered the first
sermon to be published in the New World.
This proud legacy flows forward to The American
Revolution and into the career and accomplishments of John Adams, whose
signature can be seen on The Declaration of Independence.
Many Adams' kin were involved in the war, among them the Yankee farmers at The Battle of
Bunker Hill. John Adams was elected to serve as the second American President.
His son, John Quincy Adams, remembered for successfully defending the Africans
who mutinied against the crew of the slave ship Amistad (1839-1841), was
elected the sixth American President.
This American lineage holds a
tradition as being among the
first to openly reject slavery; from the moment it first appeared in the
colonies through Civil War battlefields, and has continued an activist
tradition in support of the civil rights movement to this day.
Through it
all, the pattern of this American family has included revolutionaries,
explorers, churchmen, soldiers, political activists, farmers, scientists, and
teachers; as well as talented musicians, artists, and athletes in every
generation. All have passed
something uncommon
down to Darrel Hudson.
Notable events:
As a teen, had a crushed foot healed by healer. At 24 hours prior to 9/11, had a fierce
waking vision of a jetliner smashing into a skyscraper. At age 18, witnessed
the force of life as it surrounds all creatures in every moment.
Darrel calls Seattle home, and
is currently on a writing retreat in Green Bay. Want to get to know him

Quotes. |

"The system should be changed to begin
with. It's very hard really, the way our system operates now, for a truly
frank honest man to stay in that system indefinitely without being weeded
out or fired or made apathetic, or in effect, corrupted in the end."
Daniel Ellsberg ~ The Pentagon Papers.

Species Extinctions?
Say goodbye.
Well
folks, the data is in. By the year 2050, atmospheric CO2 levels will have
doubled. Atmospheric CO2 levels will double yet again by the year 2100. Yes,
you read it right.
So as we save the whales, we're losing the
oceans. While protecting the owls, we're losing the forests. We've hardly begun
to save the forests, and already the very air we breath is changing. So now
what?
You must ask yourself a
fundamental question. Can government in its current form create the
necessary changes in time to stave off disaster?
When you absorb the science and take an honest
look at politics, and really think it through, you realize that it cannot.
So what is the answer?--Common Sense.
There is no Greater Adventure
than Saving the World.

Power vs. Balance. |

A
REVOLUTION.
It must occur. Yet in what
form?
What are we fighting for?
Either way, let's
get in the mood because it's on us to save the future. It
is the solemn responsibility of any government to deal with gathering threats.
Ours is failing. There is far too much at stake, and far too little time to
stand by as those who run this nation sacrifice our long-range sustainability
for short-term commercial gains.
The process of
reacquiring the American Government from those who have
co-opted it for the sake of greed will be hard.
The battle to create a legitimate global environmental stewardship will be hard.
The struggle to unite the voiceless people of the world will be hard.
But none of these things will be anywhere near as hard as knowing that our descendents will despise us for our
apathy and weakness.
