It all began quite innocently, and with a simple objective: What do you get when you undertake a research project to

accurate view of our global near future?
Well,
we got the answer: If it's the modern age, and you've been using the ocean as a toilet for
300 industrial years, evidently you get a ruined world.

goal was to build an assessment as to the combined impact of many factors: new medical treatments, therapeutic cloning, biological
and genetic engineering,
the accumulated effects of toxic pollutants, unrestrained communications, space technology, geopolitical developments,
political corruption, advertising-driven sociological evolution, population
pressure, public apathy, changing weather patterns, and atmospheric warming. What we ended up with is an accurate look at
the profoundly real possibility of environmental catastrophe and what this
actually means to the lives of our descendents.
The
future? It's not going to be "Star Trek". In the present paradigm of human behavior,
in about a century, a "Blade Runner"-type situation will begin unfolding
across the planet and in all cultures. As our descendents enter the
24th century (the "Star Trek" period), they will be unnerved by the world that we have created for them. The daily lives of perhaps
60 billion human beings will be defined by survival and endurance in a
world more resembling "Soylent Green".
